Don’t Quit!When things...

Don’t Quit!

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
when he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst, that
You Must Not Quit.

- C. W. Longenecker
Winners

Winners take chances like everyone else,
They fear failing, but they refuse to let fear control them.

Winners don’t give up,
When life gets tough, they hang in until the going gets better

Winners are flexible.
They realise there is more than one way and they are willing to try others.

Winners know they are not perfect.
They respect their weaknesses while making the most of their strengths.

Winners fall, but they don’t stay down.
They stubbornly refuse to let a fall keep them from climbing.

Winners don’t blame fate for their failures,
Nor luck for their successes.

Winners accept responsibility for their lives.

Winners are positive thinkers who see good in all things.
From the ordinary, they make the extraordinary.

Winners believe in the path they have chosen even when it’s hard,
Even when others can’t see where they are going.

Winners are patient.
They know a goal is only as worthy as the effort that’s required to achieve it.

Winners are people like you.
They make this world a better place to be.

In the middle of nowhere...

In The middle of nowhere!

I hate this place they call no mans land I mean who came with a name like that!

What’s with this entire half way business with me, I’m not with the 16’s speed group and nor am I with the 17’s speed group. I refuse to go back to the 16’s because I refuse to take a step back on my fitness or should I say cycling progress, which I have worked so hard to achieve. So here I am plodding along in the middle of two groups one that is too slow and the other which is slightly too fast but I can still see in the FAR distance.

I’ve started to do this thing where I look at other women riding bikes to see how physically fit they look compared to myself, i.e. how much bulky muscle do they have on their legs and playing my own personal guessing game – I wonder how much she weighs? Mmm
obviously there are some women who I don’t’ even give a second look. I keep telling myself to stop doing that only because a lady on a sit up and beg bike this doesn’t mean she can’t kick ass on her doggy wheels! – My ego then insists on having a say - Yeah right not my ass!

One of my many goals for 2009 is to lose one and a half stone, so far that seems to be half way too. I am currently 10st 5lbs – hey don’t be rude I’m not fat, in fact this weight sits rather well on my bones. I am riding but my weight is not going anywhere…what to do? I came up with a plan today that was to starve myself “slightly” (I have to emphasize ‘slightly’ as I people like to do that selective hearing thing but in this case it would be selective reading which is essentially see what you wanna see/read what you wanna read) anyway the plan was to take in more liquids but less solids sounds great I know – a genius plan if I must say – then why don’t I have much confidence in this idea!

Jumping forward again, yesterday (29/05/2009), I went Regents Park with my boyfriend – bless him he try’s so hard with me. We done four laps but I had problems with my breathing it was just all over place. Nevertheless I managed to average 17.7mph over 28mins – not bad, not bad (pat on the back). It’s a shame about the breathing thing as I really believe that I could have done a lot better if it wasn’t for this – oh well there’s always next time I guess.

Today I went to Box Hill with my boyfriend I was supposed to go on the club run but when I heard that they were riding to Brighton I decided to give the club a miss and go on my own tour.

My legs felt good and I was hoping to stretch out my lungs on the ride to see what I could achieve. I managed to do close to 80 miles on the bike and reached a semi stable 18-22mph on most of the flat parts of the roads.

I am truly proud of myself for this weeks effort, not once did I allow room for any negative thoughts to enter my mind nor did I just give up or even ease up over any little discomfort that I may have felt along the ride and this shined through on my performance.
